Description

Latin Name: Gerrhosaurus major Average Lifespan: 15 to 20 years
Distribution: Kenya and Tanzania Estimated Size: Up to 2 feet

Great Plated Lizards spend a great deal of time basking in the sun. When they feel threatened they will dig a burrow or hide between rocks to avoid their predator. Once in between the rocks they will fill their bodies with air which will actually wedge them inside and not allow a predator to pull them out.
