Jackson's Chameleons occur naturally in East Africa. They prefer the cooler regions at higher altitudes in the mountainous areas.

Description

Latin Name: Chamaeleo jacksonii Lifespan: 8 - 10 years
Distribution: East Africa Estimated Size: 10 to 12 inches

 

Jackson's Chameleons are most distinguishable due to their three horns protruding from their head, which are a redish color. Females do not have fully developed horns, but rather small bumps where they would be.
 
Jackson's Chameleons give live birth as opposed to most lizards which are oviparous.They give birth to anywhere between 5 and 30 young.
